The Honda CR-Z is a pretty unique car. It’s a hybrid. It’s a hot hatch. It’s something in the middle. So the tuners at Mugen decided to make it more of a hot hatch then a hybrid grocery getter. From what I hear, the Mugen CR-Z will put out 200 HP due to an upgraded exhaust system and supercharger. Oh, and it will also be 110 pounds lighter.

VW is going nuts these days. First the 35th anniversary GTI now the GTI Cabriloet. Who would have thought a hatch would make such a good looking Cabrio? Those crazy Germans, that’s who. VW is saying that the Cabrio will have the same 207 HP engine as the regular GTI. The show car has a dropped suspension with 19 inch wheels.  For now, this is just a show car, but it would be awesome if they actually put this into production.

SimpleViewer requires JavaScript and the Flash Player. Get Flash.

Audi has been teasing us since April about the R8 GT Spyder. Today they release the official specs. Mechanically, the Spyder is the same as the Coupe. It still has the 5.2-liter V10 putting out 560 horsepower and 398 pound-feet of torque. The main focus, like on the Coupe, was to reduce weight. Audi has managed to remove 85 kilograms off the car by using an assortment of lightweight materials, like carbon fiber reinforced plastic. The biggest weight-savers are the seats. Volkswagen is celebrating the 35th anniversary of the GTI with a special edition, bad for us, its only in Europe. There is hope, though. VW says that they are going to bring that special edition to the States, under a new name of course. The GTI wasn’t released here until 1983, so if VW is thinking about this as a 30th anniversary, we are going to have to wait until the 2013 model year.
